CMT’s Great Race comes to Clayton tonight!

Today at 4:30 p.m., four teams will race from Downtown St. Louis to Clayton as a part of Citizens for Modern Transit's Great Race II.  Designed to play off the CBS television hit, "The Amazing Race,” the race will place Team TRANSIT, Team BIKE, Team CARSHARE and Team CARPOOL in a head-to-head competition to see which transportation mode can travel from downtown St. Louis to Clayton the fastest.

What's so great about the Great Race ? The Great Race not only highlights the great options for travel in St. Louis for work or play, it demonstrates that their are great partnerships in  St. Louis to promote a more sustainable, livable, and healthy St. Louis.   While many of you are waiting to see which team comes huffing across the finish line, the race does demonstrate that all of these modes add a healthy and active component to your work day that might not have been there before - whether you are walking to transit or a carshare vehicle, meeting up with your carpooler partners across downtown or biking straight home or to transit. Each mode is a great example of getting healthy while helping to make our air healthy too.  Participation in the race has more than doubled this year over the first race last year.

The race is set for TODAY, Thursday, May 30. It will get underway at 4:30 p.m. at the Laurel Apartments, 622 North 7th Street (corner of Lucas Ave. and 7th Street), St. Louis, MO 63101 in Downtown St. Louis, Mo RAIN or SHINE. with Mayor Slay kicking off the race, and finish at the Fortel's Pizza Den located at 7359 Forsyth Blvd., CLAYTON, MO 63105 with a community celebration including complimentary food and drinks and live music.

Each team is made up of local media personalities and representatives of companies and organizations with a vested interest in the alternative commute, including: Anchor Kevin Steincross of Fox 2 News, reporter Heidi Glaus of KDSK News channel 5, reporter Diana Zoga of KMOV Ch. 4, meteorologist Angela Hutti of Fox 2 and News 11, Phillips & Company Morning Show host Kevin The Intern of Y98, Todd Morgan from KHITS 96.3, Riz from 105.7 The Point, Rosalind Early from St. Louis Magazine, Don Corrigan from Times Newspapers; Lindsay Toler from Patch.com; representatives from Citizens for Modern Transit, Metro, the St. Louis Regional Clean Air Partnership, Enterprise CarShare, RideFinders, Great Rivers Greenway, STL Style, Fortel’s Pizza Den, the City of St. Louis, St. Louis County Economic Council, MERS Goodwill, FOCUS St. Louis, the Federal Courts, BMW of O’Fallon, St. Louis Bicycle Works, Spoked STL and Wolfpack Hustle, and well as members of the community at large.
