Michael Downey Chosen as a 2013 Distinguished Legal Writing Award Winner by Burton Awards

Michael Downey was selected as a 2013 Distinguished Legal Writing Award Winner by the Burton Awards for Legal Achievement.

Michael Downey, a partner in Armstrong Teasdale’s Litigation practice group, was selected as a 2013 Distinguished Legal Writing Award Winner by the Burton Awards for Legal Achievement, for his article, “Ethical Rules for Litigating in the
Court of Public Opinion.” 

In association with the Library of Congress, the Burton Awards is a non-profit
program that celebrates the achievements and excellence of scholars and professionals in law. Downey is one of thirty winners selected by the program’s
Academic Board from the country’s top 1,000 largest and most distinguished law
firms.

Downey focuses his practice on advising lawyers on legal, ethics and risk management issues and defending those professionals in civil and disciplinary proceedings. He is also an adjunct professor who teaches legal ethics and law firm practice at Washington University School of Law and professional responsibility at Saint Louis University School of Law. Downey authored the book Introduction to Law Firm Practice and more than 60 articles on professional ethics. He has also
presented on ethics more than 250 times, and testified as an expert witness in
Missouri, Kansas, and the District of Columbia.

Admitted to practice in Missouri and Illinois, Downey graduated first in his class from Washington University School of Law and earned a Certificate in Law Practice
Management from George Washington University. He is also Chair Elect of the ABA Law Practice Management Section and a member of the ABA Task Force on the Future of Legal Education.
