I first want to say CONGRATULATIONS to all of the 2012 graduates because whether you know it or not YOU are the future.
I too just recently graduated from UMSL with a Bachelor of Science in Media Studies and a minor in Spanish and I know the hard work that it took to get to the place of obtaining a degree and I think I speak for myself and everyone else when I say that there were plenty of days I wanted to be like, "I'm not going today" or " I'm tired of school", but kept it pushing.
What I don't understand is when I hear people who do NOT have college degrees or people who did NOT complete high school say things like, "having a degree doesn't mean anything" or the best one, "I know people with degrees who are on drugs and the people I know that don't have one are making lots of money."
Okay yes there maybe a some people that have not put there degrees to work, the job market is terrible, and I find it to be true that we live in a world where it's not what you know but WHO you know, but when you have that piece of paper stating what kind of degree you have and your credentials, who you know just gets even juicier.
See in a classroom, you have EVERYTHING to gain and last time I checked KNOWLEDGE was, is and will ALWAYS be power. To my people who are up next for graduation 2013, don't let the foolish talk disturb your thoughts and the next time someone says something slick about education not being everything, turn around and tell them, " you know the most dangerous person in the world is a person with a LIBRARY card"!
