Brian Kaveney, an Armstrong Teasdale partner and the founder and head of the firm’s Security Clearance and Facility Clearance Task Force, has been selected as a 2013 “40 under 40” by the St. Louis Business Journal. The honorees, who have made names for themselves in the St. Louis business community, were selected by a panel of 11 judges from 527 nominations.
In his national practice, Kaveney guides companies, key management personnel and employees through the process of obtaining and maintaining the approval that is required to work with the Department of Defense, the military services and other agencies. He also works with government defense contractors to develop strong compliance programs and avoid violations of government procurement laws.
A member of the firm’s Litigation practice group, Kaveney is an experienced advocate who argues before the Defense Office of Hearings and Appeals and other adjudicative bodies. Kaveney also has a business law background and advises clients in non-compete and trade secret cases and performs corporate work for companies that handle classified information.
Currently serving as an advisor to the Midwest Marines Foundation, Kaveney is a member of the Young Leaders Board of USO of Missouri, Inc. and volunteers for Rebuilding Together.
He received his J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law and his B.A., cum laude, from the College of the Holy Cross. Before attending law school, Kaveney served as a United States Marine Corps Infantry Officer. He achieved the rank of Captain and received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. Kaveney also served on the staff of the Secretary of the Navy from 1998 to 1999.
