St. Louis parents likely are contemplating ways to better their lives in 2012. Should kids care?
Many St. Louis parents probably are considering personal New Year's resolutions. They might include getting fit, losing weight, spending more time with family or writing a novel.
But how do you define a good New Year's resolution for your children? And does the practice of forming resolutions make a difference? That's where we need your help.
So onto this week's question: How do you explain New Year's resolutions to your kids? What makes a good resolution? And do they really make it easier to achieve goals we've set?

I'm sure my wife and I will have conversations about New Year's resolutions with our son when he gets older. My view is that goal-setting is a yearlong process. New Year's is a good starting point. But it's really about making a commitment and sticking to it, even when setbacks arise. My message to my son will be: Set goals and find people who can help you attain them.
