Election 2012: School Board Candidates Can File Tuesday

Open seats are up for grabs on both the Clayton Board of Education and Maplewood Richmond Heights School Board in April.

The filing period starts on Tuesday for residents interested in running for a position on the Clayton Board of Education or the Maplewood Richmond Heights School Board.

The election is scheduled for April 3.

Two seats on the Clayton board—those of Vice President Jane Klamer and Secretary Lily Raymond—will be open for the April election. Both have indicated they will seek a third three-year term on the board, the 's website states.

Filing opens at 8 a.m. Dec. 13 at the district office. People who file by 5 p.m. that day will be placed on the ballot in an order determined by a random drawing. Those who file after Dec. 13 will appear in the order in which they filed.

The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the exception of the following:

  • Saturdays
  • Sundays
  • Days with inclement weather
  • Dec. 22 to Dec. 30
  • Jan. 2 and Jan. 3
  • Jan. 16

The filing period ends at 5 p.m. Jan. 17.

Maplewood Richmond Heights School Board

Three three-year terms are up for election in April. The terms of Lamar Agard, Francis Chmelir and Ralph Posley are set to expire.

The district's central office will accept notices from interested residents between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Tuesday until Jan. 17.

The office will be closed on Dec. 23, 26, 30 and Jan. 2*. Candidates must bring a 200-word biographical summary and photograph. Additionally, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • U.S. citizen
  • Resident taxpayer of the school district
  • Missouri resident for at least one year preceding the election
  • At least 24 years old

Other races

Candidates running for Clayton Board of Aldermen also will be able to file starting Tuesday. The terms of Ward 1 Alderman Judy Goodman, Ward 2 Alderman Michelle Harris and Ward 3 Alderman Steve Lichtenfeld expire in April.
