Clayton Awards $1M Solar Contract for New Police Station

The array will be installed above the new Clayton Police Department parking structure on South Brentwood Boulevard by Kansas City-based Brightergy.

A $1.1 million contract to install a solar array above the 's future parking garage has been awarded to a Kansas City company with offices in Webster Groves. The City of made the announcement Tuesday in a news release.

The system from Brightergy will power the garage at 10 S. Brentwood Blvd. and offset a portion of the neighboring police building's energy usage.

"We are very excited to be working with the city and our other partners on this project," Brightergy principal Ryan Gardner stated in the release. "Clayton's commitment to green energy not only saves taxpayer dollars but also puts many local St. Louisans to work."

Sunpower Corp. will provide the solar panels, while the steel structure on which they will be mounted will come from Crider Americas. St. Louis electrical contractor Kaemmerlen Electric will provide support with the installation.

“Clayton has been a regional leader in green energy solutions as the first city in the area to achieve the initiative and our commitment to LEED Silver certified public buildings,” Clayton Mayor Linda Goldstein stated. “The use of solar on our new police station reaffirms our focus on using the latest technologies to keep us energy efficient.”
