Siteman Cancer Center to Offer Breast Cancer Screenings in Richmond Heights
The Siteman Cancer Center mammography van will offer breast cancer screenings from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 12 at Schnucks in Richmond Center, 6600 Clayton Road, Richmond Heights.
Mammography, an X-ray examination of the breasts, is the best test for identifying breast cancer before it can be felt – when the cancer is more likely to be curable.
To make an appointment, call 314-747-7222 or 800-600-3606 toll-free. Women should bring their insurance card to the appointment. For those without insurance, assistance is available. Call 314-454-8466 for more information.
Each exam takes about 30 minutes, and the exam fee will be billed to the patient, her insurance company or Medicare. A Washington University radiologist reads all mammograms, and the results are reported to the patient and her physician.
The American Cancer Society recommends yearly mammograms for women age 40 and older with an average risk of developing the disease. An annual exam is not recommended for women who:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Have breast implants.
- Have a history of breast cancer.
- May be experiencing warning signs of cancer.
The Siteman Cancer Center van is certified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is sponsored in partnership with the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, whose board-certified radiologists review the digital mammography images.
