Clayton's Scheipeter Recognized as Top Public Works Leader
Clayton Public Works Superintendent Gary Scheipeter has been named one of the 2011 Top Ten Public Works Leaders of the Year by a national association, a news release from the city of Clayton states.
The American Public Works Association announced the accomplishment Tuesday. Scheipeter is expected to be recognized at the association's congress and exposition in Denver that will happen Sept. 18-21.
The award represents public works professionals throughout the U.S. and Canada "for their career-long dedication and service, professionalism, and expertise in public works infrastructure," the release states. Scheipeter has worked with Clayton's public works department for 37 years, starting as a clerk.
He has served for 22 years as superintendent, a position that includes responsibility for an annual operations budget of more than $2.3 million, the release states. Scheipeter also helps prepare for major Clayton events such as The Saint Louis Art Fair and The Big Read.
"Scheipeter personally plans many of the logistics, including street closings, electrical layouts, tent setups, supply distribution and trash collection, and his employees staff the events in force," the release states.
Scheipeter will be awarded during a cocktail reception planned from 5 to 7 p.m. May 16 at the Crowne Plaza St. Louis-Clayton Hotel.
