The Gateway Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is launching its 2011 Man & Woman of the Year competition to raise money for cancer research and patient services.

The competition is in honor of the 2011 Boy & Girl of the Year, Brendan Su and Sammy Wyeth.  Brendan is a 5-year old boy who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia when he was just 11 weeks old.  After enduring five rounds of very intense chemotherapy Brenda is now coming up on his 5th year of being cancer free.  Sammy is a 7-year old girl who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia two days after Christmas in 2007 and spent two and a half years undergoing multiple rounds of chemotherapy.  Sammy was given the all clear last October.

The money raised by the Man & Woman of the Year candidates is used by LLS to fund research seeking cures and better therapies.  Every dollar raised counts as one "vote".  The male and female candidates with the most "votes" will be awarded title of 2011 Man & Woman of the Year at the Grand Finale Celebration on Thursday, April 14 at the Ritz-Carlton.

Please join us at the kickoff celebration at ARAKA on February 17th and the Grand Finale on April 14th at the Ritz-Carlton.  For more information or to join the competition please contact Erin Urban with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (314) 878-0780 ext. 37 or erin.urban@lls.org.  Additional details are available at the campaign's website: www.mwoy.org/gat.
